Cold Showers Aren't Going to Make you Live Longer
This story made me laugh.
This is what not to do if you want longevity: Listen to a 32-year-old actor. She names three things: 1. Sleep. Ok. That’s a good one, but what she prescribes for sleep is not going to cut it. Getting a good night’s sleep means plenty of movement during the day and healthy eating. I’d place finding joy and being creative as ways to sleep better over wearing blue-light glasses. I’ll admit, I have a pair, but that’s like the cherry on top.
2. Exposure to heat and cold. This is not going to do anything for inflammation. Diet and stress reduction, which lead to better sleep, will do more than jumping in cold water.
“On the flip side, cold exposure is good for inflammation. It can activate something called ‘brown fat’ [brown adipose tissue] which is actually a type of fat that burns energy and is good for weight loss and body composition,” says Avalon. https://www.cnbc.com/2023/03/11/this-actress-started-a-podcast-to-find-out-how-to-age-well.html
Moderate use of alcohol. Alcohol is poison. It’s not healthy in any way. I’m not saying people shouldn’t drink alcohol. I’m just saying if you want to age slower, eliminate drugs and alcohol.
Why are journalists asking actors how to live a long life? Maybe this is a paid placement for this actor’s podcast and the joke is on me.
I’m going to live forever!
